VOICE ARTS® AWARDS Muhammad Ali & Challenge To 'Do Great Things' Will Be Honored At Voice Arts® Awards Gala August 12, 2016 (VOXtra) - The spirit of Muhammad Ali - his enticing us to "Be great. Do great things" - will be felt at the Voice Arts® Awards Gala, November 13 in Los Angeles, where the inaugural Muhammad Ali Voice of Humanity Honor will be presented to a well-known world figure. (Ali photo by John Lair.) Created in partnership with the Muhammad Ali Center, the award in Ali's honor is meant to "infinitely expand the space in which we work as voice actors and content creators - to show how each one of us has the capacity to influence the world in positive ways," explains Rudy Gaskins, CEO of the Society of Voice Arts and Sciences™ (SOVAS™), which is presenting the Gala as culmination of SOVAS' 2016 Voice Arts® Awards competition. Now in it's third year, the Voice Arts Awards honor excellence in voice acting and related media content creators in scores of categories (see earlier article.) The deadline for submitting entries in this competition is this coming Tuesday, August 16 (click for details). Award winners will be announced at the celebrity-infused Gala at the Warner Bros. Theater in Burbank. SOVAS also presents its annual That's Voiceover™ Career Expo and Conference on November 12, the day prior to the Gala. And with that in mind, SOVAS sponsors an Academic Scholarship, currently valued at $5,650 (see more below). CREATING BRONZE SCULPTURE Renowned sculptor Marc Mellon is creating a bronze sculpture for the award, which Gaskins says will be presented to "an individual whose voice, through humanitarianism, activism or personal sacrifice, has made a decidedly positive impact on our national or global condition as a society." And it's intended to inspire voice actors. "We all have a voice, and our voices are so much more than we give ourselves credit for," Gaskins says. "Each one of us has the capacity to influence the world in positive ways. "My hope is that this new honor will inspire the voice acting community, and all those we influence, to recognize and take ownership of the greater good that our voices serve - above and beyond advertising and entertainment," he adds. APPLY FOR SOVAS SCHOLARSHIP Recognizing the cost of pursuing a voice over career, this year's SOVAS Academic Scholarship will award one individual with thousands of dollars of training opportunities - including one-on-one coaching, group sessions, online courses and international networking events. (Pictured is 2015 scholarship recipient Brenda Robinson receiving the award from voice actor/coach J. Michael Collins.) "The scholarship is designed to identify those with potential for a successful voice over career who may be thwarted by a lack of financial means," SOVAS explains at it's website. Applications for the scholarship are now being received (click for details).
