2016 VOICE ARTS® AWARDS Entries Open For 3rd Annual Voice Arts® Awards Competition, Featuring More Award Categories June 15, 2016 (VOXtra) - The Society of Voice Arts and Sciences™ (SOVAS™) has announced the opening of entries for the 3rd Annual Voice Arts® Awards - an international competition for voice actors and content creators of film, television, radio, video games, audiobooks, podcasts and other digital media. New for this year's competition are an expansion of award categories to include:
"As is tradition, the 2016 ceremony will take place on a star-studded Sunday night," SOVAS announced. "Notably, the Voice Arts Award statuette was designed in partnership with R.S. Owens, makers of the Oscar® and the Emmy® awards." Also at the Awards Gala, SOVAS will present the Muhammad Ali Voice of Humanity Honor - developed in partnership with the Muhammad Ali Center - to "an individual whose voice, through humanitarianism, activism or personal sacrifice, has made a decidedly positive impact on our national or global condition as a society." This award category was "designated and approved months before" Ali's death earlier this month, SOVAS notes. The Muhammad Ali Center is an honorary sponsor of SOVAS, and SOVAS will be encouraging donations on the Center's behalf. SOVAS will also honor a "notable talent" with the Voice Arts Icon Award at the Gala. Previous recipients have been James Earl Jones and William Shatner. HONORS EXCELLENCE The Voice Arts Awards competition is open to voice actors, producers, casting directors, audio engineers, creative directors and other involved in the voice acting industry. It is "the only major award competition dedicated to honoring and acknowledging all those who create and sustain excellence in projects where voice acting is a key factor in the final creative," SOVAS says. "That covers just about every type of digital entertainment, advertising and informational video project." Individuals and companies may submit entries online at www.voicearts.org. The Earlybird Entry deadline is June 30. SOVAS explains:
ABOUT SOVAS The Society of Voice Arts and Sciences is an organization that oversees several programs for voice artists involving training, resources, employment, scholarships and recognition of excellence. In addition to the awards program, these include the That's Voiceover!™ Career Expo and Conference (held this year on November 12, the day prior to the awards gala) and scholarships. SOVAS was recently honored with an award for "Outstanding Innovation in Support of Narrators and Spoken Word Artists" at the HEAR Now Festival on June 12 in Kansas City, MO - an annual event presented by the National Audio Theater Festivals. "SOVAS is creating new opportunities for the entire industry and influencing the entire voice acting community in dynamic ways," said Sue Zizza, President and Co-Chair of the National Audio Theater Festivals, in presenting the award. "We are thrilled to honor them with this award." (Zizza is pictured, right, with SOVAS CEO Rudy Gaskins and SOVAS Chief Communications Officer Joan Baker.)
