How Many Labor Days Are In
Your Wallet? 365 Days A Year ...

 The first Labor Day was celebrated on September 5, 1882, in New York City. In the aftermath of the deaths of a number of workers at the hands of the U.S. military and U.S. marshals during the Pullman Strike of that era, President Grover Cleveland quickly set forth legislation on behalf of the labor movement to make the first Monday of September an annual observance of “Labor Day.”
Traditionally, Labor Day is celebrated by most Americans as the symbolic end of Summer. But in reality, there are 365 Labor Days every year!
If you don’t believe that, just ask the mothers of this, and every other country, who are giving birth to new babies “around the clock” 24/7.
And all we guys have to do is “labor” to pay the bills for the next 18 to 20 years.
VOICE OVER LABOR, TOO
Personally, I enjoy the fact that all of us, men and women alike, can “labor” in the fields of “voice over” whenever and wherever we choose.
How many Labor Days are in your wallet?
My first “official” Labor Day was celebrated when I was only five weeks old. The year was 1932.
Oops! I think I just gave away my age. Forget your calculator ... that was 78 years ago.
“You gotta be kiddin' ... and you’re still doing voice overs?”
You bet I am - and I ain’t nowhere near the end of the road.
SENIOR ACHIEVERS
Throughout history some of the greatest achievements have been reached by “seniors” who believe that you’re only as old as you feel.
As long as you can remain healthy and alert, the challenges of life can always be reached.
 Academy Award-winning actor Ernest Borgnine (pictured with filmmaker Rick Pamplin on the set of Crimebusters), now 93-years old, has been a real force in the voice over field.He received a Daytime Emmy nomination for voice work on the animated All Dogs Go to Heaven series in 1999.
He also provided the voice of the elderly superhero Mermaid Man on the comedy cartoon SpongeBob Square Pants, and appeared in The Simpsons episode, “Boy Scouts N the Hood” - playing himself.
Borgnine, who has three motion pictures coming out this year, and is currently filming two more, including the Pamplin Film Company’s Crimebusters, will be presented the Screen Actors Guild’s Life Achievement Award - to be televised on Jan. 30, 2011.
The movie Marty and TV show McHale's Navy were only the beginning of his fabulous career.
In the field of audiobook voice overs, you only have to check the annual Audie Awards list of winners each year to find many seniors who are still “laying down” the tracks and enjoying every minute of it.
