PEOPLE
Go Lolo Jones! Like In Voice Over,
Positive Outlook Jumps Hurdles
June 1, 2012

By Lisa Rice
Voice Actor

"My failures have always kind of inspired me. I have doubts. When I overcome those doubts and when I accomplish what I need to accomplish, there's no greater joy."

These challenging words come from Lolo Jones, the 2012 Olympian specializing in the 60 meter and 100 meter hurdles race.

If she wins the gold this summer, her 12-second victory will have been 12 years in the making. She already has several World Athletics Finals, World Championships and the 2008 Olympic Games behind her.

Needless to say, this is Lolo's time to shine.

ENCOURAGES VOICE ACTORS

Voice over artists also have challenges, and like Olympians we work in seconds. Broadcast spots come in the :60, :30, :15, :10 and :05 variety.

We must audition countless times but our training and preparation doesn't mean we'll win every job. For every audition won there are many others lost.

Maybe that's why Lolo's journey encourages me. She puts forth the effort, overcomes obstacles, strives to be her best and keeps running for the prize.

More importantly, her washouts motivate her. Win or lose, on the track and off, I have a suspicion her positive outlook will carry her through quite well all the days of her life.

Go Lolo Jones!
