(Screen photos by Tom Dheere) 2016 AUDIE AWARDS® At Gala, Best Female And Male Narrators Among Scores Of Audie Award® Winners May 12, 2016 (VOXtra) - With punchy and passionate wit, award-winning comedian/commentator Paula Poundstone led the 21st Annual Audie Awards® Gala Wednesday night in Chicago through a ceremony of cheers and applause as winners of this year's prestigious Audie Awards for audiobook excellence were announced. Sponsored by the Audio Publishers Association (APA), the Audies are often referred to as the "Oscars of spoken word entertainment,” and the event at Chicago's Adler Planetarium was a gathering of authors, narrators and publishers to honor recipients. Especially notable for narrators were awards to Katherine Kellgren for Best Female Narrator, and to George Guidall for Best Male Narrator. (See details below.) Top honor for Audiobook of Year went to The Girl on the Train by Paul Hawkins, read by Clare Corbett, Louise Brealey and India Fisher, and published by Penguin Audio/Books On Tape. Judges praised this audiobook for its "trio of skilled narrators (who) pull listeners into the psychological suspense. "The ‘trust no one’ twists and possible unreliability of the three central women compel the listening experience and make this a great choice to recommend to audiobook fans or newcomers to the format," the judges added. "With storytelling this good, it’s clear to see why the audiobook continues to gain fans across a broad market.” About all award winners, APA President Linda Lee remarked: "As the audiobook industry grows and thrives, we reach new heights of visibility, quality, and audience enthusiasm for the format – all reflected in every one of tonight’s nominees and winners!” THE WINNERS ARE ... Thanks for sharing. It is always great to see (hear) what is happening and to take a moment or several to listen to the work of others.
