VIDEO HUMOR The Client Demands More Sex Now! (In The Voice) ... And You're Gonna Laugh August 11, 2014 (VOXtra) - The voice actor is in the booth, upbeat, smiling to please after several reads for a perfume commercial. But the client is not pleased, and snaps at the producer: "Stop! This is not sexy. Find me someone sexy or I go somewhere else."Crisis. What's the producer do? Lots of funny videos make their way to us, but this classy pilot episode from the audio production team at Hyperbolic Audio in New York City is a show-stopper. Note: Hyperbolic Audio's voice over training and demo production division is called Shut Up & Talk - and that name clues us that these guys like to have fun."Voice over can be a strange business," explains Sean Elias-Reyes, who with Julian Rebolledo owns Hyperbolic Audio. "There are a lot of funny personalities, and let's face it - the advertising business is full of stress, drama and comedy. All perfect fodder for a comic send-up." And they do that well. For a 5.5-minute laugh, launch Malodorant V.O. Recording Session, then come back for a brief chat with Sean about it ... Sean, we're hooked. Why did you start this series? Sean: Frankly, we just wanted to be the creative force behind something. We've had quite a few good ideas together, and this one finally made it to prime time - if the person decides to watch during prime time. I guess if they watch it at breakfast time, then we made it to breakfast time. Well, this first episode hits home - and the funny bone. What was your inspiration? A few years ago I had this idea that if puppets really existed they would probably be a very niche work force. I mean, if you look like Cookie Monster, is someone going to take legal advice from you? Could a sock puppet sell real estate? Based on the idea that we live in a world where puppets are real, what kind of jobs could they have? If they weren't a Muppet or on children's television, then what could they do for a living? Voice over would be perfect for them! No one would ever have to know that a monster does movie trailers, or that a sock puppet sells shampoo. Then, extrapolating on that idea I thought, "What if puppets were AMAZING at voice over?" So, we decided that they can do anything - accents, character voices, impressions, anything you would need. Puppets are uniquely suited to VO and are the best at it. How close to reality is this particular situation? It is loosely based on an actual session we had in the studio. The phrase "It's not sexy for me" has been an inside joke for Julian and I ever since. Well, we're laughing. And what's the frequency of your episodes? As often as possible, but with work/studio/family we'll see. We put so much into getting this done that we're now here going, "Oh, wow. We need to write some more episodes." So, we hope, very soon. We had a lot fun with this, and we hope people have fun with it, too. Web: www.HyperbolicAudio.com Web: www.ShutUpAndTalk.com Your Daily Resource For Voice-Over Success
